MPs have treated union members ‘appallingly,’ Unite says

STRIKING traffic wardens will protest outside Parliament on Wednesday over their local MPs’ inaction to prevent union-busting.

The Unite members working for the Ealing council-controlled company, Greener Ealing, are angry at the “disgraceful” lack of support from Labour MPs Deirdre Costigan and James Murray, the union said.

Four wardens have been sacked on trumped-up charges while they were taking strike action, which has run since August 2024 over the company’s refusal to recognise their union, said Unite.

It has submitted letters of complaint regarding the conduct of the MPs in relation to the dispute to the parliamentary standards commissioner and Labour Party general secretary Hollie Ridley.

A letter of complaint against council leader Peter Mason has also been lodged with Ealing council’s standards committee.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Greener Ealing’s civil enforcement officers have been treated appallingly by their local politicians. It is time they stepped up and supported these workers.”

The MPs and council have been contacted for comment.
