Robbie Rogers yesterday called the decision to award Russia and Qatar the next two World Cups “insane” due to their disgusting views on LGBT citizens.
Rogers is the highest profile openly gay footballer in the world, currently playing for US side LA Galaxy, and feels there will be risks for any players or fans hoping to take part in or watch either tournament.
He said: “I would never pressure anyone into speaking about the issue but it is absolutely insane. If you look at the next few World Cups, they are in places where, if I were to go, I would possibly be imprisoned or beat up or stoned to death. It is pretty ridiculous.
