‘All roads lead to housing’
Housing is not only a basic need but also a human right. Defending it has become a political necessity, says GLYN ROBBINS
John Cruddas MP once said “all roads lead to housing” and he was right. There’s a tendency to see the subject in isolation and as the preserve of “experts.” But few issues touch more on every aspect of our daily lives. That’s why the Housing Bill is such a threat.
Most immediately, it will attack council tenants, those in housing need and push up homelessness, but it won’t stop there. Our cities and communities will be reshaped by corporate-sponsored demolition and displacement. It’s already happening. People are being priced out of their homes and neighbourhoods by a housing market that’s out of control.
The housing crisis is damaging the lives of millions.
