ISRAEL announced yesterday it was grabbing 370 acres of Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank for an illegal settlement.
The Co-ordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), a branch of the Defence Ministry, announced that the area near Jericho would be declared “state land.”
Israeli Army Radio had already revealed the plan on Tuesday, saying the land was north of the illegal Israeli settlement of Almog and had been used by settlers for 20 years.
Police crackdowns on Israeli peace demonstrators combined with court rulings and settler organisations are designed to strip Palestinian families of their homes and land. The Israeli state has tried to silence both Israelis and Palestinians who resist, according to Zo HaDerekh (This Is The Way) the Communist Party of Israel’s Hebrew-language weekly
