AN award-winning film director has promised to triple any financial donations made to the Just Stop Oil campaign as protesters completed their sixth week of regular slow marches through the heart of London.

Academy Award-winning writer, director and producer Adam McKay, of The Big Short, Anchorman and Don’t Look Up fame, launched the offer at 10am on Friday, and will last 48 hours until 10am on Sunday.

The offer follows a similar one made on Wednesday by green energy Ecotricity founder Dale Vince, who pledged to double any donations for a 48-hour period, raising £173,000.

Just Stop Oil campaigners are demanding that the Westminster government halt all licences and consents for new oil, gas and coal projects.

Mr McKay said: “The scientific reality is we will hit 1.5°C global warming in the next 18 to 24 months which should greatly alarm each and every person on this planet.

“I stand with those taking action to defend the climate to wake up the world’s sleeping governments to the terrifying scale of the catastrophe we are now living through.”
