Households could still pay 13% more for energy than last winter's despite price cap, new analysis shows

HOUSEHOLDS could end up paying around 13 per cent more for energy than they did last winter, according to analysis published today, as Ofgem’s updated price cap came into effect.

The regulator announced in August that the cap on a unit of gas and electricity would reduce average bills from £2,074 to £1,923 for the three months from October 1 in England, Wales and Scotland.

This is still more than 50 per cent above pre-crisis levels, and the government is yet to announce any financial support.
