DR CONGO: The army “foiled a coup” this morning, it said, making arrests after a shootout outside a minister’s house.
Armed men attacked guards of Vital Kamerhe, an ally of President Felix Tshisekedi, a day after parliamentary elections were postponed.
The army says the attackers serve self-exiled opposition leader Christian Malanga, who released a video today in which, surrounded by soldiers, he declared: “Felix, you’re out: we’re coming for you.”

AFGHANISTAN: Flash floods after heavy rains have killed at least 84 people since Friday night, the Taliban said today.
The floods hit four districts of Faryab province, destroyed or damaged 1,500 homes, drowned over 300 farm animals and inundated hundreds of acres of crops. Afghanistan has suffered unusually heavy seasonal rains this spring, killing hundreds over the last month.

SAUDI ARABIA: US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan held talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman today on a “semi-final” security agreement.
The deal, which includes trade and military clauses but also Saudi recognition for the state of Israel, has been delayed by the latter’s invasion of Gaza. Riyadh is said to be pushing for help enriching uranium, with an eye on developing a nuclear weapons capacity should Iran do so.
