Er cof am Gareth
by Hywel Griffiths

Ers duo’r Seren Fore
mae un llen drom yn ei lle;
llen rhyngom a’r ymgomiau,
eto yn mudo’r dramâu.

Erys llwyfan, a baner,
erys yr hwyl, erys her
i’n bythol anobeithio:
erys ei ewyllys o.

Ar y cwm mae geiriau’r co
yn aros, a disgleirio;
yn y dweud, onid ydyw,
y mae’r Seren Fore’n fyw.

Gan y Prifardd Hywel Griffiths

In memory of Gareth

After the fading of the Morning Star
a curtain lies heavy in its place
between us and the dialogue,
muting the plays once more.

But there is still a stage, and a flag,
The spirit and the challenge
to our perennial despair remain,
and still, his will is here.

Over the valley, memory remains,
words sparkling,
and as they speak,
the Morning Star shines on.
