New Holyrood boundaries put to the public
A general view of the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood, Edinburgh

NEW boundaries for Holyrood constituencies and regions have now been put out for consultation ahead of next year’s elections.

In the first shake-up of Scottish parliamentary constituencies since 2011, Boundaries Scotland has proposed to change seven, four of which will be renamed.

Its proposed constituency of Linlithgow and Polbeth will be renamed to Bathgate, while the proposed constituency of Callendar Park, Linlithgow and Stenhousemuir will be renamed Falkirk East and Linlithgow, and Glasgow Airport and Langbank will be renamed Renfrewshire North and Cardonald.

The new constituency of Langbank and Phoenix Retail Park will be renamed Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley.

Another three areas will see boundary changes but keep their names.

Almond Valley, which will be amended by Polbeth; Falkirk West, amended by Callendar Park and Stenhousemuir; and Paisley amended at Phoenix Retail Park and Glasgow Airport to follow ward boundaries.

Boundaries Scotland is also seeking views on their plans to change four of the eight regions which will be used to elect list MSPs in 2026,  including a proposal to include the new town of East Kilbride in the Glasgow region, while moving the Glasgow suburb of Cardonald into the West region.

The changes would also see Central Scotland region take on Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse to become Central Scotland and Lothians West, while the Lothian region will be renamed to Edinburgh and Lothians East.

Boundaries Scotland chairwoman Alisa Henderson said: “We have used this information, alongside submissions to earlier rounds of consultation and previous local inquiries, to arrive at additional proposals that meet the legislative requirements, are fair across Scotland as a whole and reflect the natural boundaries of communities.

“We look forward to receiving submissions on these additional proposals.”

The consultation, accessible on the Boundary Scotland website, will run until February 24.
