PEACE activist Chris Nineham will testify at the government’s undercover police inquiry in February against a detective he said was an “agent provocateur.”

The founding member of the Stop the War Coalition will say the officer was “consistently pushing us closer toward legal boundaries” and that he did so “more than any others.”

Along with five other police officers, the detective in question will also face scrutiny over the accuracy in his reporting on activist groups.

Mr Nineham’s statements were heard in a press briefing for the upcoming second phase in the Undercover Policing Inquiry’s Tranche 3 — commonly known as the Spycops Inquiry — to be heard from Monday February 2 to Thursday March 26.

This phase of the inquiry will look into “over a million” documents about Special Demonstration Squad officers deployed between 1993 to 2007.

Oral evidence will be given from 21 witnesses and will include witnesses from women who were deceived into engaging in relationships with the undercover cops.
