At the other end of the table Aberystwyth breathed life into their relegation struggle with a 3-2 win at Llansawel Briton Ferry, Barry Town beat Flint 3-1, Connah’s Quay squeezed past Newtown 1-0 and Caernarfon won 3-1 at Bala.

MEN’S BOXING: Light-welterweight Adam Azim extended his unbeaten record to 13 fights after stopping Sergey Lipinets in the ninth round of their IBO title bout on Saturday night. Azim had knocked Lipinets down in the third round but was also deducted two points for low blows later in the contest. On the undercard super-middleweight Callum Simpson won his second title fight in a fortnight with a ninth round stoppage of Ghana’s Elvis Ahorgah.

WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION: Eve Higgins bagged a hat-trick of tries as defending champions the Irish Wolfhounds cruised to a 64-21 victory at Glasgow on Saturday and remained top of the Celtic Challenge. Second-placed Gwalia Lightning enjoyed a 26-5 win over last year’s runners-up Edinburgh while bottom-of-the-table Brython Thunder continued their winless run after slumping to a heavy 58-0 defeat against the Clovers in Belfast.
