MEN’S FOOTBALL: Gateshead thrashed Farsley Celtic 8-1 in Tuesday night’s replay of their FA Trophy third round game that was abandoned after 27 minutes last week when Celtic defender Lewis Turner suffered a cardiac arrest. Turner has now returned home from hospital and publicly thanked Gateshead physio Frazer Bell for performing life-saving CPR on the pitch. Gateshead, the current cup holders, will host Boston United in the fourth round.

MEN’S CRICKET: South Africa are one down as they face Pakistan in the second leg of their three match one-day series in Cape Town tomorrow. Chasing 239 Saim Ayub hit 109 and Salman Ali Agba weighed in with an unbeaten 82 as Pakistan claimed Tuesday’s first game by three wickets. Zimbabwe also take on Afghanistan over 50 overs in Harare tomorrow after their first game was abandoned due to persistent rain.

CYCLING: British Cycling will receive a record-breaking £38.95million funding package from UK Sport to support its preparations for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. Britain won 11 cycling medals at the Paris Olympics and 22, including nine golds, at the Paralympics. Conversely, for the first time since 2004, there will be no British men’s teams taking part in professional cycling’s continental events next year due to a lack of financial support.
