YOUTH DEMAND accused Eurovision of double standards after three of its supporters were arrested during Israel’s performance at the song contest's live final on Saturday.
No-one was hurt when two people tried to rush on stage to disrupt Israeli singer Yuval Raphael’s performance, organisers in Basel, Switzerland, said.
The youth-led civil resistance group, which has been calling on the British government to impose a full trade embargo on Israel, said that David Curry, 22, from Manchester, and Meaghan Leon, 27, from London, were detained by armed police.
Ms Leon said: ”I cannot not sit back and watch Europe throw a party with the genocidal state of Israel in attendance, especially after Russia was rightfully kicked out for their aggression towards the Ukrainian people. Do Palestinians not deserve the same consideration?”
Mr Curry said: ”Israel is being armed and aided by UK and European governments, while they murder a child every 45 minutes.”
Youth Demand said that a third activist was arrested during the final, but did not name them.
