A STRATEGY to cover the entire food system from farm to fork was unveiled by the Welsh government today.

Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability Llyr Gruffydd announced the new government’s food plans at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show.

The National Food Strategy for Wales is planned to transform the country’s approach to food policy, spanning production, processing, retail as well as how the food produces factors into health, education, public procurement and the circular economy.

The minister has appointed an expert group to shape the future of Welsh food.

“This strategy will bring together the whole food system, from our farmers and fishers to our retailers, schools and communities, so that we can make better, more joined-up decisions for the benefit of everyone in Wales.”

The new strategy is one of Plaid Cymru’s 100 day commitments and the final strategy is expected to be presented to ministers next year.
