Puerto Rico governor resigns following 12 days of mass protests

PUERTO RICAN governor Ricardo Rossello will step down from his role on August 2 following nearly two weeks of mass demonstrations.

Thousands of people outside the governor’s mansion in Old San Juan burst into cheers following the announcement released on Facebook just before midnight yesterday.

The announcement was expected by 5pm local time and protesters had waited in anticipation for hours.
