Jewish community in US remains vigilant after 18 bomb threats against synagogues in March

AT LEAST 18 bomb threats against synagogues and Jewish community centres have been reported across nine US states this month, according to a new report.

The Secure Community Network (SCN) said the “alarming number serves as a reminder that the Jewish community remains a top target for hate crimes in the United States and must continue to foster preparedness and resiliency.”

The organisation said it was actively working with community leaders and law-enforcement agencies to address the spate of bomb threats.

It recently convened a meeting that included leading figures and officials from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to discuss the magnitude of the threats and how best to protect the local communities.

“This significant wave of threats is yet another call to action for the Jewish community to be as prepared and protected as possible,” SCN national director Michael Masters said.

President of the Jewish Community Centres Association Doron Krakow said that nothing was more important than safeguarding the organisations that are the central Jewish address in 170 neighbourhoods, towns and cities throughout North America.
