Thousands evacuated from Kherson as Ukrainian forces attack Russia's hold on city
Evacuees from Kherson gather upon their arrival at the railway station in Anapa, southern Russia, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022. Russian authorities have encouraged residents of Kherson to evacuate, warning that the city may come under massive Ukrainian shelling.

UKRAINIAN troops attacked the Russian-held southern city of Kherson today as authorities there began joining tens of thousands of residents evacuating to other areas held by Russian forces.

Moscow said that the United States risks being drawn into the conflict and warned that the Russian military could target Western commercial satellites used for military purposes in support of Ukraine.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the US of pursuing “thoughtless and mad” escalation.
