UNITE engineers have overwhelmingly accepted a backdated 7 per cent pay rise.

The 20 Clydeport workers provide crucial repair and maintenance support services for the cranes and workshops owned by the Peel Port Groups on the river Clyde.

Based at the King George V dock in Glasgow and at Greenock Ocean terminal, they ensure that containers, forest products, agribulk, project and bulk cargo can efficiently move on to, and from land to destination markets.

Today, Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite is securing better pay, jobs and conditions for our members. It’s what we do.

“The pay rise for Clydeport engineers in Glasgow and Greenock is another good win and demonstrates why Unite is Scotland’s leading trade union.”

Unite industrial officer Pat McIlvogue added: “A 7 per cent pay win represents a big boost to our members’ pay packets.

“We are pleased to have got this deal over the line for our members.”
