Scottish Borders Housing Association workers secure pay deal

SCOTTISH Borders Housing Association (SBHA) workers have secured a boost to jobs, pay and conditions, their union announced today.

Unite has negotiated a 5.5 per cent basic pay rise for about 160 workers at the Selkirk-based organisation, plus an 8 per cent increase in stand-by payments and an additional holiday on St Andrew’s Day.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has delivered a decent wage win for our SBHA membership.

“This win shows that if you want better jobs, pay and conditions, then join Unite.”

Unite represents workers in trades roles, including joiners, painters, plumbers, plasterers, electricians and roofers, along with office staff.

The pay deal, which is backdated to April, has been accepted by an overwhelming 97 per cent of Unite’s membership.

Unite industrial officer Pat Egan said: “The pay deal delivers a significant income boost for Scottish Borders Housing Association workers, including those providing essential repair and maintenance services.

“It’s a deal which we are pleased to have got over the line and it was emphatically backed by our membership.”
