CLYDEPORT dock workers have secured a pay package equivalent to a 9.3 per cent rise, Unite announced today.
Around 100 workers based at the King George V dock in Glasgow and Greenock Ocean terminal overwhelmingly backed the offer from the Peel Port Group, which owns Clydeport’s cranes and workshops.
It amounts to a 3 per cent increase in basic pay, two days extra holiday, bonuses worth up to £1,000 if absence and profit targets are reached and a 50p an hour wage boost for crane operators.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has successfully negotiated a good pay package for our Clydeport members on the Clyde.
“It’s another important win and demonstrates how Unite is delivering better jobs, pay and conditions for dock workers across Scotland.”
The deal covers crane and terminal operators, pilots — who move vessels around the Clyde — engineers and deck hands.
The workers handle and move containers, forest products, agribulk, project and bulk cargoes from vessels onto land for distribution to destinations across Scotland.
Unite industrial officer Pat McIlvogue said: “Clydeport workers will benefit from a deal which will deliver better pay, bonuses and holiday entitlement.
“It’s a welcome recognition for the skilled work of dock workers on the Clyde.”
Unite engineers at the sites accepted a backdated 7 per cent pay rise in April.
Those 20 workers provide crucial repair and maintenance support services for the cranes and workshops owned by the Peel Port Group on the River Clyde.
Mr McIlvogue said at the time: “A 7 per cent pay win represents a big boost to our members’ pay packets.
“We are pleased to have got this deal over the line for our members.”
