DONALD TRUMP’s war against Iran and Nigel Farage’s nationalism were condemned at the Welsh Liberal Democrats’ spring conference this weekend in Cardiff.

Lib-Dem leader Jane Dodds used her conference speech to speak out against Reform UK’s toxic cocktail, bringing hate and division into politics.Israeli tanks are parked in a staging area in northern Israel near the border with Lebanon, Israel, Sunday, March 8, 2026

“Across Europe and across the West, we are seeing the same dark pattern repeat itself, a politics built not on hope but on fear,” she said. “A politics that exploits people’s anxieties, that tells them their neighbour is the problem.

“It promises simple answers while the real pressures on families, jobs and the cost of living go untouched.”

The Welsh leader said her party is opposed to Mr Trump’s unilateral military action and poured scorn on Mr Farage’s visit to the United States.

“He’s over there right now, trashing our country and flattering the orange ego,” she said. “Peace is not secured by one country acting alone: the only path to lasting security is diplomacy, international law and co-operation between nations.”
