HUNDREDS of housing association workers will go on strike over pay, Unite has announced.

Citizen Housing’s repairs workers in Birmingham, Coventry, Hereford and Worcester will walk out on October 28 and nine dates in November.

Unite said more than 30,000 homes will be affected and threatened to intensify industrial action if the dispute is not resolved.

“The workers are angry at a derisory 4 per cent pay offer from Citizen Housing, which had a turnover of £192.6 million and an operating surplus of £48.3m for 2023-24,” said a spokesman.

Even with the 4 per cent offer, some workers will still only be on the national minimum wage, said the union.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Citizen Housing’s workforce are rightly angry that their pay is being kept artificially low despite the association’s huge surplus and sky-high executive wage packets.”

Citizen Housing said the company understood the pressures facing colleagues and would “continue to provide support where we can.”
