MEN’S BOXING: Sale-born Pat Brown stopped John Hedges in the sixth round to win the vacant British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles in Manchester on Saturday night. Brown improves his unbeaten record to seven bouts since turning professional in November 2024. He had previously represented Britain at the Paris Olympics. Hedges, who won the English title in May 2025, suffered a first defeat in 13 bouts. 

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Substitute Rory Holden grabbed a stoppage-time winner as Cymru Premier table-toppers The New Saints edged out Llandudno 2-1. Penybont are still four points behind in second after easing to a 5-1 win at Ammanford while third-placed Caernarfon came from a goal down to crush Cambrian United 9-1. Holywell Town lost 1-0 at Haverfordwest to remain bottom, a point adrift of Flint Town who went down 4-1 at Airbus. 

WOMEN’S CRICKET: Hampshire finished as One Day Cup runners-up for the second consecutive season after losing out on the last ball to the Blaze in Saturday’s final at Southampton. Opener Ella McCaughan had top-scored with 78 as Hampshire reached 251-9 in their 50 overs with spinner Lucy Higham taking 4-49. The Blaze survived a mid-innings collapse to win by three wickets, with Emma Jones striking the game’s final delivery for a four.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Warrington will face Leeds at Headingley next Friday evening for a place in the Grand Final after they comfortably saw off Hull KR 35-12 in Saturday’s play-off eliminator. Warrington have never won a Grand Final, finishing as runners-up on four occasions. The other semi-final pits Wakefield, who held off Leigh 26-16 in their eliminator, against Super League champions Wigan. Wakefield have never reached a Grand Final before.
