Reigning World Champion Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar competes to win the Il Lombardia, Tour of Lombardy cycling race, in Como, Italy, October 12, 2024

MEN’S BOXING: Artur Beterbiev narrowly defeated Dmitry Bivol on points to become the undisputed light heavyweight world champion in Riyadh on Saturday night. It was Bivol’s first ever defeat and also the first time that Beterbiev has failed to stop an opponent inside the distance. On the undercard Britain’s Jack Massey was stopped by International Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia in the sixth round of his title bid.

MEN’S CYCLING: Tadej Pogacar brought the curtain down on one of the greatest personal cycling seasons of all time by soloing for more than 30 miles to claim a record-breaking fourth successive victory at the Il Lombardia classic. The Slovenian has won the World Championships, Giro D’Italia, Tour de France, Srade Bianchi and Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic in 2024. Remco Evenepoel was second at Il Lombardia, more than three minutes behind Pogacar.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Brechin drew 2-2 with Brora Rangers in Saturday’s top of the table Highland League clash to stretch their unbeaten start to 14 games and maintain a seven-point lead at the summit. Third-placed Banks O’Dee thumped struggling Rothes 7-1 while bottom club Strathspey Thistle lost 4-0 at home to Inverurie Loco Works and Nairn County extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 1-1 draw against Fraserburgh.
