
MEN’S BOXING: Belfast’s Antony Cacace stopped Leigh Wood in the ninth round to retain his IBO super-featherweight title in Nottingham on Saturday night.
Cacace improved his record to 24 wins from 25 bouts, while Wood suffered a fourth career defeat.
On the undercard, Liam Davies earned a unanimous points decision over Kurt Walker to win the vacant IBF intercontinental featherweight belt and light-heavyweight Ezra Taylor outpointed Troy Jones.
MEN’S TENNIS: World number one Jannik Sinner returned to action following his three-month doping ban with a straight-sets win over Mariano Navone at the Italian Open on Saturday.
Sinner, playing his first match since winning the Australian Open in January, saw off the Argentinian 6-3 6-4 in the second-round encounter in Rome, having received a first-round bye.
The 23-year-old Italian produced a fine all-round display to secure victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
HORSE RACING: Hollie Doyle steered Brindavan to victory at Ascot on Saturday to gain the 1,023rd winner of her career, surpassing the now-retired Hayley Turner to become the most successful women’s jockey in British racing.
Doyle bagged her maiden success in 2013 and was the first women to ride a classics winner when partnering Nashwa to the French Oaks in 2022.
She has ridden more than 100 winners in each of the last five seasons.
