Jannik Sinner serves against Mariano Navone during a second round match at the Italian Open tennis tournament in Rome, May 10, 2025

MEN’S BOXING: Belfast’s Antony Cacace stopped Leigh Wood in the ninth round to retain his IBO super-featherweight title in Nottingham on Saturday night.

Cacace improved his record to 24 wins from 25 bouts, while Wood suffered a fourth career defeat.

On the undercard, Liam Davies earned a unanimous points decision over Kurt Walker to win the vacant IBF intercontinental featherweight belt and light-heavyweight Ezra Taylor outpointed Troy Jones.

MEN’S TENNIS: World number one Jannik Sinner returned to action following his three-month doping ban with a straight-sets win over Mariano Navone at the Italian Open on Saturday.

Sinner, playing his first match since winning the Australian Open in January, saw off the Argentinian 6-3 6-4 in the second-round encounter in Rome, having received a first-round bye.

The 23-year-old Italian produced a fine all-round display to secure victory in one hour and 38 minutes.

HORSE RACING: Hollie Doyle steered Brindavan to victory at Ascot on Saturday to gain the 1,023rd winner of her career, surpassing the now-retired Hayley Turner to become the most successful women’s jockey in British racing.

Doyle bagged her maiden success in 2013 and was the first women to ride a classics winner when partnering Nashwa to the French Oaks in 2022.

She has ridden more than 100 winners in each of the last five seasons.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Leinster ran in 12 tries to crush Zebre 76-5 and seal top spot in the United Rugby Championship with one game to go after second-placed Glasgow slumped to a 33-7 defeat at Treviso.

Bottom club Dragons lost their sixteenth consecutive game, 48-12 at the Cape Town Stormers, Edinburgh won 31-21 in Connacht, Pretoria’s Bulls beat Cardiff 45-21, Ospreys went down 29-10 at Durban and Munster saw off Ulster 38-20.
