MEN’S RUGBY UNION: South Africa and New Zealand ended the first phase of the Nations Championship with the only unbeaten records after the All Blacks comfortably beat Ireland 40-21 in Auckland and South Africa crushed Wales 43-0 at Durban. Fiji lost 33-19 in Scotland to remain without a point and Italy were thumped 57-10 in Australia to also stay winless. France beat Japan 42-15 and England saw off Argentina 31-24.

MEN’S CRICKET: Northampton beat Somerset by 17 runs in the semi-finals before seeing off Hampshire by 14 runs to win the Twenty20 Blast title at Edgbaston on Saturday. Opener Ricardo Vasconcelos hit 88 from 59 balls as Northants posted 169 all out in the final with Hampshire falling short on 155 with four balls to spare. James Sales was the pick of the Northampton bowlers with 3-25 from his four overs. 

MEN’S BOXING: Harlem Eubank was knocked down three times as he lost out to David Papot by unanimous decision for the vacant IBF international welterweight title in Hackney Wick on Saturday night. The 32-year-old Eubank has now lost two of his last three bouts and his career record slips to two defeats in 24 bouts. Saint-Nazaire born Papot, who was knocked down in the seventh round, has 31 wins, one loss and a draw to his name.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: South Africa had three tries disallowed as they beat France 16-5 on Saturday evening in Tbilisi to win their second successive under-20s World Championship. Last year’s runners-up New Zealand finished third after seeing off England 41-25 and Scotland edged out Wales 28-21 in the battle for fifth place. Ireland beat Italy 34-26 to finish in ninth and hosts Georgia ended up 12th after losing 30-10 to Fiji.
