HOCKEY: England’s men continued their recent inconsistent Pro-League form with a win and loss to Australia at Lee Valley. They have slipped to 7th place in the table, 14 points behind league leaders Netherlands, but do have two games in hand. The Dutch women are also leading the way while the English are locked in a battle against relegation following a 1-0 defeat and 4-1 win in their matches against Spain.
WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Wigan maintained the Super League’s only 100 per cent record after coasting to a 60-6 victory over Leigh that keeps them a point clear of second-placed St Helens. The Saints ran in 17 tries to steamroller bottom-club Warrington 86-0. Sinead Peach scored a late try to snatch York Valkyrie a 24-20 win over Huddersfield while Leeds came from behind to swamp Barrow 66-4.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: The European Championship under-19s semi-finals take place in southern Poland tomorrow evening with holders Spain up against Italy and France playing Portugal. The French were the only unbeaten team and highest goalscorers during the group stages and shared the best defensive record with Spain, conceding only one goal in three games. England’s women finished third in their group behind Spain and Portugal.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: Oklahoma City came from behind to beat the Indiana Pacers 103-91 early on Monday morning to seal the NBA finals 4-3 and lift the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander top scored again for Oklahoma with 29 points and 12 assists. This year’s Most Valuable Player has also beaten Michael Jordan’s 1993 record for the highest scoring season by an NBA champion, averaging 32.7 points per game.
