WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Leah Williamson, England’s European Championships winning captain, made her first appearance for nine months after coming on as a substitute in Arsenal’s 6-0 League Cup win at Reading on Wednesday. Williamson, who has made 224 appearances for the Gunners and won 46 international caps, missed England’s run to last year’s World Cup final after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in April.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: London Lions are still in the hunt for an automatic EuroCup quarter final spot after thumping Besitkas 93-72 to move level with Hapoel Tel-Aviv, who lost out 113-105 to Ukraine’s Prometey Slobozhanske, in the race for second place in Group A. Runaway table toppers Paris edged out Joventut Badalona 89-82 whilst  bottom club Olimpija Ljubljana romped home 114-83 in Hamburg for their first win of the campaign.

ICE HOCKEY: Mark Simpson scored after just 12 seconds as Sheffield Steelers took a huge step towards the Challenge Cup final with a 6-0 thrashing of Coventry in the first leg of their semi final on. The Steelers, who currently lead the Elite League by 13 points, will meet either Glasgow or Guildford, neither of whom have won the trophy before, in the final after they drew their first leg 0-0.

MEN’S CRICKET: The men’s under-19s World Cup continues in South Africa this morning when England put their 100 per cent record on the line against the West Indies in Potchefstroom. Tomorrow’s other matches in the 50 over competition see Afghanistan against Nepal, with both teams looking for their first win, and the USA taking on Bangladesh. Scotland, who lost to the Windies by five wickets on Wednesday, play South Africa tomorrow.
