MEN’S CRICKET: Auckland-born Finn Allen finished as top scorer in the Big Bash League after hitting a rapid 36 in the Perth Scorchers’ six-wicket win over Sydney Sixers, with 15 balls to spare, in Sunday’s final. Allen was also the tournament’s leading six hitter with 38. Haris Rauf from the Melbourne Stars was the top-wicket taker with 20 dismissals. Indian spinner Nikhil Chaudhray had the best economy rate. 

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: New England Patriots came from behind to edge out Denver 10-7 amid a snowstorm in Colorado late on Sunday night and reached their record-extending 12th Super Bowl. The Patriots last won the trophy in 2018. They will meet the Seattle Seahawks at Santa Clara, California in a fortnight’s time after they held off the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 in their Conference championship match.

MEN’S CYCLING: Australia’s Jay Vine escaped unharmed from a crash caused by kangaroos to take victory at the season opening Tour Down Under on Sunday. Switzerland’s Mauro Schmidt was over a minute behind in second with Vine’s compatriot Harry Sweeny third. Darlington-born Matthew Brennan was first home in the final stage, becoming the third Briton to taste victory, following stage wins from Ethan Vernon and Sam Watson.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Glasgow City still lead the Scottish Women’s Premier League by five points after their 1-1 draw with Rangers on Sunday. Celtic moved into second place with Maria McAneny’s second half strike earning them a narrow 1-0 win over Montrose. Bottom-club Hamilton were thumped 5-0 at defending champions Hibernian, Mya Christie scored late to seal Aberdeen’s 2-1 win over Motherwell and Hearts eased past Partick 4-0.
