Silent Quaker meeting to be held outside Scotland Yard to protest against police raid
The famous spinning sign outside the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard, in central London

A SILENT Quaker meeting will be held outside Scotland Yard on Thursday following the shock raid by police on Westminster Meeting House last week.

At least 20 officers broke into the central London venue last Thursday and arrested six people attending a talk by Youth Demand on climate change and peace in Gaza.

Police arrested the attendees, including a journalist and someone attending their first talk, on conspiracy to cause a public nuisance.

“This raid is not an isolated incident,” said Oliver Robertson, head of witness and worship for Quakers in Britain. “It reflects a growing trend of excessive policing under new laws brought in by the previous government — now being enforced by the current administration.”

Quakers in Britain have called for the repeal of restrictive laws, such as the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023.

They will hold a silent meeting beginning midday outside the Metropolitan Police HQ.
