ICE HOCKEY: Sheffield Steelers could lift their first Elite League trophy since 2016 with a win in regulation time at second-placed Cardiff on Wednesday evening.

If they win in over-time or after a shoot-out they’ll still mathematically be one point short of becoming champions.

The Steelers have been the dominant force in British ice hockey this season and beat Guildford 3-1 in last week’s Challenge Cup final. Dundee face Guildford in tomorrow night’s other fixture.

WOMEN’S CRICKET: England beat New Zealand by 27 runs in the first leg of their five-match one-day international series in Dunedin today.

After losing the toss, England captain Heather Knight top-scored with 63 from 39 balls in their total of 160-4.

In reply, the Kiwis lost a wicket to the third ball of their innings and struggled to gain momentum before finishing on 133-5. The second match starts in Nelson on Friday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: With the chase for NBA finals play-off places heating up, champions Denver are at Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday morning for a crucial clash between two of the top three in the western conference.

Anthony Edwards bagged 32 points as Minnesota won 114-104 at Utah Jazz on Monday.

Table-topping Boston, who are six games clear of Oklahoma in the national standings, take on Milwaukee, their nearest challengers in the east, tomorrow evening.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: With Banks o’Dee not in action on Wednesday night, Fraserburgh can climb into second place in the Highland League by continuing their four-match winning run with all three points from their visit to lowly Forres Mechanics.

Elsewhere, tomorrow evening, high-scoring Huntly welcome Keith to Christie Park, fourth meets fifth when Buckie Thistle host Formartine and second-bottom Clachnacuddin are at Brora Rangers.
