MEN’S CRICKET:

Kagiso Rabada further improved his world-beating test match strike rate by taking 6-46 in 18 overs as Bangladesh were all out for 307 in their second innings on Thursday in Mirpur.

Rabada ended with match figures of 9-72 as South Africa won by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the two match series.

Bangladesh are currently ranked as the world’s ninth-best test team, five places below South Africa.

 

MEN’S FOOTBALL:

The Scottish Cup second round continues tomorrow with League Two teams entering the fray.

Table-topping East Fife play Banks O’Dee while unbeaten second-placed Elgin City face bottom club Clyde.

Other fixtures include Hill of Beath Hawthorn against Bo’ness United, Jeanfield Swifts taking on Edinburgh City, Huntly at Highland League leaders Brechin, East Kilbride hosting Bonnyrigg Rose and ex-League Berwick Rangers visiting Forfar.

 

ICE HOCKEY:

Fans at all Elite League games this weekend are being asked to remember Adam Johnson with 47 seconds applause.

The Nottingham Panthers forward, who wore number 47, was killed during a match with Sheffield on October 28 last year.

The 29-year-old former National Hockey League player made only 12 appearances in Britain before his death.

Protective guards to prevent similar neck injuries are now mandatory in the Elite League.

 

MEN’S BASKETBALL:

Jaylen Brown led the way with 27 points as reigning NBA champions the Boston Celtics followed up their comfortable opening day win over the New York Knicks with a 122-102 victory against Washington on Friday morning.

Last year’s runners-up Dallas began their campaign by coming from behind to beat San Antonio 120-109, Minnesota edged Sacramento 117-115 and Oklahoma City overcame 2023’s winners Denver 102-87.
