BOXING: Dundee-born Dick McTaggart, Scottish boxing’s only Olympic gold medal winner, died on Monday. The 89-year-old won gold at the Melbourne games in 1956 and followed it up with bronze in Rome four years later. A phenomenal amateur record saw him win 610 of his 634 bouts, picking up five British ABA titles, a European championship, as well as gold and silver medals at the Commonwealth games.
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: The first trophy of the domestic ice hockey season will be decided tomorrow evening when Belfast Giants have home advantage over Cardiff in the Challenge Cup final. Belfast have won four of the last six finals, most recently when beating Cardiff 3-2 after over-time in 2022. The Giants top the Elite League, eight points ahead of fourth-placed Cardiff, and have won all five of their league clashes this season.
SCOTTISH FOOTBALL: St Johnstone will face holders Celtic in the men’s Scottish Cup semi finals after Graham Carey’s spectacular long-range strike earned them a 1-0 win at Championship team Livingston on Monday evening. Aberdeen are up against Hearts in the other last four match. The draw for the women’s Cup semi finals paired holders Rangers with Aberdeen while nine-time winners Glasgow City will take on Motherwell.
