THE Scottish Cuban Solidarity Campaign (SCSC) has condemned Donald Trump’s tightening of the draconian US blockade against the island.
The campaign, which last month welcomed Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov to Glasgow to celebrate the centenary of his revolutionary grandfather Fidel Castro, has spoken out as vital supplies of fuel dwindle in Cuba.
Despite the US embargo already being at its harshest in six decades, Mr Trump chose to ramp up the attack on the Cuban people by cutting off fuel supplies from Venezuela and threatening tariffs on any other would-be suppliers of oil to the socialist republic.
A SCSC spokesperson said: “We intend to continue raising awareness about humanitarian projects in Cuba.
“Most recently we have raised funds and awareness for the Cuba Vive appeal — which raises capital to purchase medical equipment, medicines and supplies for hospitals supporting Cubans directly affected by the harsh economic sanctions imposed by Trump.”
Calling for politicians step up for Cuba, it said: “It has never been more important to support the Cuban people.
“Cuba’s continued resilience in the face of US imperialism shows us that a better world is possible.”
