MORE THAN 7,000 people gathered outside Downing Street at 48 hours’ notice on Friday evening to demand that the government stop arming Israel.
The emergency demonstration was called by a coalition including Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition and Campaign against Nuclear Disarmament (CND).
Speaking at the rally, independent MP Jeremy Corbyn outlined his plans to table legislation on June 4 for a public inquiry into Britain’s role in the genocide.
He said wants it to be as strong as the Chilcot inquiry but with “more teeth,” so that “those people who have been deceiving us about weapon supplies, those people that are involved in this secret carnage, which has taken the lives of 60,000 Palestinians, will be brought to account.”
CND general secretary Sophie Bolt warned: “ Suspending trade talks with Israel is not taking action.
“Having a meeting with the Israeli ambassador is not taking action.
“It’s the absolute height of cruel hypocrisy to wring their hands and condemn Israel’s breach of international humanitarian law whilst Britain continues to sell parts of F-35-A fighter jets to Israel so it can kill and maim Palestinians.
“While it continues surveillance flights from Cyprus, providing Israel with the coordinates so that it can slaughter civilians. And whilst it continues to supply parts for Israel's deadly nuclear submarines.”
Condemning the government’s complicity, Yasmine Adam from the Muslim Association of Britain said: “They made the choice to prioritise political alliances, arms deals, and the language of diplomacy while turning a blind eye to mass atrocities."

But unions warn renationalisation must not be fudged

Campaigners say there is clear evidence British weapons are contributing to war crimes as the government goes on trial to defend its continued supply of arms to Israel
