PROTESTERS will rally outside the Royal Courts of Justice tomorrow morning during an appeal over Britain’s arms sales to Israel.
Palestinian human rights organisation Al-Haq has been in an ongoing legal battle with the government over its supply of parts for F-35s, lethal jets which Israel has used in its genocide in Gaza.
In June, the High Court dismissed an application for a judicial review of the government’s decision to continue the exports, which are part of a global supply programme.
The government had acknowledged that there was a “clear risk” that that such parts could be used to violate international humanitarian law, but that suspending exports would “undermine US confidence in the UK and Nato.”
The court determined that it didn’t have the jurisdiction to rule on international law and that only the government is able to decide when it should comply with it.
According to Campaign Against the Arms Trade, Britain makes 15 per cent of each jet.
CAAT’s Emily Apple said: “This is the last opportunity for our legal system to hold this government to account and take the courageous, legal, and moral option, and uphold international law.
“Our entire political and legal system has — to-date — failed us, and more importantly, failed the Palestinian people.
“Our government is complicit in genocide. It has continually lied about arms sales. It claims it has done everything it can when it has failed to stop the most substantial part of the UK’s arms exports to Israel — the F35 contract.”
