CAMERON NORRIE beat Ignacio Buse in straight sets to advance to the round of 32 at the National Bank Open in Montreal today.

Norrie, ranked four places below the Peruvian world number 33, secured a confident 6-3 6-3 win in one hour and 29 minutes as he looks to regain his British number one ranking.

The 30-year-old saved three out of the four break points he faced and converted four out of 11.

Norrie broke the Peruvian at he first opportunity and he comfortably saw out the set from there.

Buse finally created — and converted — a break point of his own to bring the second set level at 2-2, but Norrie broke back immediately and then saved three break points in his next service game.

Buse, who required a medical timeout, could not get himself back into the set.

He staved off the British number two’s first match point, but Norrie sealed victory with his second.

Norrie will face world number seven Alex De Minaur in the next round as he looks to overhaul Arthur Fery in the British rankings.

Jacob Fearnley’s run from qualifying ended as he went down 3-6 6-3 3-6 to Czech 13th seed Jakub Mensik.

After losing the first set and his opening service game of the second, Fearnley hit back to win six of the next seven games and level the match.

The British number five broke again at the start of the second set as he took a 2-0 lead, but Mensik broke twice in succession and served out to book his place in the last 32.

De Minaur is the only one of the top four seeds remaining after top seed Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev both went out in the second round on Wednesday.

Zverev lost 7-6 2-6 4-6 to Tallon Griekspoor, whose fellow Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp beat fourth seed Medvedev 6-3 7-6 (3).
