IRAN and the United States-Israeli coalition exchanged a massive wave of missile attacks today.

Iran announced today that it launched a massive combined missile and drone operation against Israeli territory and US facilities in countries across the region.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched Khaibar Shekan missiles with cluster warheads against targets in the heart of the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv.

The Iranian military reported that drones from the ground, air, and naval forces targeted “Tel Aviv” and the “Miron” radar position in the occupied territory.

The IRGC spokesman stressed that they were “prepared for a long war to punish the aggressor,” adding “new Iranian innovations and weapons are on their way to us and have not yet been used on a large scale.”

Israeli warplanes pounded Tehran and Beirut.

The strikes in Tehran and Lebanon were some of the most intense since the US and Israel launched their unprovoked attack on Iran a week ago.

The US and Israel have targeted Iranian military capabilities, leadership and its nuclear programme. Last week, 175 schoolgirls were killed as they sheltered in a primary school. 

Social media posts have shown buildings being destroyed on both sides.

At least 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, more than 120 in Lebanon and around a dozen in Israel, according to officials in those countries. Six US troops have been reported killed.

The Israeli attack on Lebanon was the heaviest since a 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah ended the last war, although the Israelis have carried out daily attacks on southern Lebanon.

More than 95,000 people have fled Beirut and southern Lebanon after sweeping Israeli evacuation warnings.

Meanwhile, in a social media post today, US President Donald Trump said that after Iran’s surrender, “and the selection of a great and acceptable leader,” the US and its allies would help rebuild Iran, making it “economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.”

On Thursday, President Trump urged the Iranian people to “help take back your country,” promising the US would grant them “immunity,” without elaborating.

He also told media outlets that he should be involved in choosing Iran’s new supreme leader to replace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the opening strikes of the war. 

President Trump labelled Ayatollah Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, a front-runner to replace his father, “a lightweight.”

Iranian television reported today that a leadership council had started discussing how to convene the country’s Assembly of Experts to select the new supreme leader.
