HUNDREDS of former Israeli military, diplomatic and intelligence officials have called on US President Donald Trump to urge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to curb “settler terror” in the occupied West Bank.

In a letter published today, nearly 600 former officials appealed to Mr Trump as the only one capable of averting the “calamity” of escalating violence and its implications for Israeli, US and regional security.

The letter, from lobby group Commanders for Israel’s Security (CIS) — a zionist movement of more than 550 retired Israeli generals, colonels and equivalent ranks in Mossad, Shin Bet and other bodies — said: “Unless arrested swiftly and decisively, escalating violence in the West Bank is poised to ignite the region.”

CIS said it was “no secret” that certain government members “orchestrate much of this chaos,” including by shielding settlers from legal scrutiny, and called on Mr Trump to raise the issue with Netanyahu during their meeting in Washington today.

The letter follows widespread settler violence across the West Bank over the weekend after a deadly shootout in Tal killed two Israelis and four Palestinians.

Settlers also set fire to two mosques in separate attacks on Sunday, spray-painting “Jewish revenge” as well as other racist graffiti.

United Nations data shows s 3,033 settler attacks were recorded between January 2025 and June 2026, with Ramallah and el-Bireh governorate worst affected.

Attacks have risen steadily since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023 — from 1,291 in 2023 to 1,835 in 2025, with 2026 on track for a 24 per cent increase in the monthly rate.

About 600,000 to 750,000 Israeli settlers now live across some 250 settlements and outposts in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, many near Palestinian population centres.

Earlier this year, the Israeli government approved plans on land registration, meaning it will be able to seize land from Palestinians who cannot prove ownership.
