More than 200 housing maintenance and repair workers to strike

MORE than 200 housing maintenance and repair workers in Liverpool are to strike over pay.

Members of unions Unison and Unite employed by not-for-profit social housing provider Livv will walk out on October 16 and 23.

The workers have suffered below-inflation wage increases for “many years,” Unite said.

They have rejected a 5 per cent rise, saying that it would not make up for the erosion of their pay.

Unite pointed out that Livv, which maintains 13,000 houses in Liverpool, made £40,000 surplus per employee last year and set up a bonus scheme worth £140,000 for its small management team.

“Livv Housing should be ashamed of itself,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.

“This is an organisation that is fully able to provide its workers with a decent pay offer but has chosen not to.”

Unite warned that the strike would cause severe disruption to housing services, including repairs and maintenance.

Livv was invited to comment.
