WASHINGTON slapped sanctions on Venezuelan Vice-President Tareck El Aissami on Monday following media claims that he was involved in drug trafficking.
US Treasury Department sanctions also targeted Samark Lopez, a wealthy Venezuelan businessman accused of laundering money for Mr Aissami, and 13 of his companies.
The Venezuelan government did not immediately respond, but Mr Lopez branded the measures “politically motivated.”
