Sport in brief: February 6, 2024

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Eight-time Scottish Cup winners Hibernian have been drawn at home to Premier League leaders Rangers in the quarter-finals of this year’s competition. Cup holders Celtic face a trip to Montrose, Partick Thistle host Hearts and Livingston, the only team from outside the top flight to reach the last eight, were paired with Spartans, who currently languish just one place of the bottom of the Premier League.

ICE HOCKEY: Peter Crinella hit an overtime winner as Guildford won 5-4 at Dundee Stars to warm up for tomorrow evening’s Challenge Cup semi-final second leg with Glasgow on their home ice. The first leg in Scotland finished 0-0. Glasgow’s build-up was not quite as successful after they suffered a heavy double-headed defeat to runaway Elite League leaders Sheffield. Tonight’s winners will travel to face Sheffield in March’s final.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Just three days after London Broncos hooker Bill Leyland was ruled out for the upcoming season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, full back Josh Rourke, who only joined the club in December, broke his leg in a pre-season friendly with Oldham. London will make their return to the Super League after five years in the Championship with a trip to world champions St Helens on February 16.
