SPEEDWAY: Celina Liebmann will break through another glass ceiling when she becomes the first woman to ride at the Peter Craven Memorial event, the traditional season-opener at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Centre in Manchester on March 18. Liebmann was the first woman to race in the Speedway Under-21s World Championship in 2022 and will be the first female to ride in the British Speedway Championship after signing for the Workington Comets.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: Sheffield Steelers suffered only their second defeat in 23 Elite League games when they slumped to a 4-1 loss at second-placed Cardiff but hit back with 4-1 win of their own over Coventry on Sunday evening to top the table by 12 points. Bottom club Nottingham kept up their superb home form with a 5-1 win over Belfast and Dundee boosted their play-off hopes with wins over Coventry and Glasgow.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Table-topping London maintained their 100 per cent record in the Women’s British Basketball League after crushing bottom club Cardiff Met 95-19. Leicester moved into second place with wins over Newcastle and Manchester, Caledonia won 91-60 at the Oakland Wolves, Madison Washington netted 21 points in Sheffield’s comfortable 103-51 victory in Nottingham and Essex edged out Durham Palatinates 79-74.

WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION: Gloucester-Hartpury moved nine points clear at the top of the English Women’s Premiership after easing to a 43-19 at bottom of the table Sale on Sunday. Their closest challengers Saracens, who were not in action over the weekend, have a game in hand on the league leaders. Third-placed Exeter were held to a 19-19 draw by Harlequins, Bristol beat Loughborough 33-17 and Ealing enjoyed a 29-14 win at Leicester.
