MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Reigning NRL champions Penrith began the new season with a narrow 8-0 defeat in Melbourne as Tyrell Sloan bagged a hat-trick in St George Illawarra’s 28-4 win at Gold Coast and Parramatta saw off Canterbury Bankstown 26-8. Cronulla edged out the New Zealand Warriors 16-12, Canberra beat Newcastle 28-12 and North Queensland hammered the Dolphins 43-18 on Sunday morning.
MEN’S CRICKET: Scotland play the first leg of a three-match Twenty20 series against the United Arab Emirates in Dubai tomorrow after their 50 over World Cup League 2 game was postponed on Saturday due to a storm. Scotland sit 14th in the world’s short format rankings, three places above the UAE. Neither team appeared at the 2022 World Cup but Scotland have qualified for this year’s tournament in the West Indies and USA.
