POLICE are investigating threats received by Labour MSP Anas Sarwar from a far-right group.
He was sent a threatening email which included a far-right propaganda video.
Mr Sarwar, who had spoken out against Islamophobia directed at him during his recent campaign to lead the Scottish Labour Party, said he would not be deterred from continuing to campaign against hate.
He told the Daily Record: “I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and solidarity in the last few weeks. Sadly, I have also received some highly troubling communications.
“But all these people have inadvertently done is strengthen my resolve to campaign on the issue of everyday racism and Islamophobia and to deliver positive change.”
Police Scotland said they were investigating the email.
The MSP lost out to leftwinger Richard Leonard in the leadership campaign sparked by last year’s resignation by Kezia Dugdale.
Mr Sarwar said that, during the leadership campaign, a Labour councillor had told him that he could not support him because he was a “brown, Muslim Paki.”
