ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners in Poland said today that a new “anti-smog” energy tariff was not enough to tackle the country’s awful air pollution.
Poland generates almost all of its electricity by burning coal and, over the winter, people often use coal or oil-fuelled heaters in their homes to keep warm.
The energy market regulator said it hoped people would instead adopt the new tariff, which is slightly cheaper than the two most popular plans, and switch to electricity heaters.
