NETBALL: Despite confirming their place in the end of season play-offs with a 61-56 win at Leeds on Saturday the Severn Stars will not be a part of next year’s revamped Netball Super League.

Five-time champions Team Bath have also missed out on selection with new teams in Birmingham and Nottingham being created to replace them.

Surrey Storm and Strathclyde Sirens, the only Scottish representatives, are also out.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Defending champions Munster came from behind to beat Ulster 29-24 on Saturday and sealed top spot in the United Rugby Championship.

Pretoria’s Bulls finished second after winning 26-14 in Durban against the Sharks, with Leinster above Glasgow in third on points difference.

Next week’s play-offs will see Munster play the Ospreys, the Bulls host Treviso, Leinster take on Ulster and the Stormers travel to Glasgow.

MEN’S CRICKET: Aaron Jones hit 10 sixes in an unbeaten 94 as co-hosts the United States beat Canada by seven wickets, cruising home with 14 balls to spare, in the opening game of the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday morning.

Both teams were making their debuts in the short format world cup.

Namibia play Oman in Barbados before New York see 2014’s champions Sri Lanka up against South Africa in Monday’s matches.

SPEEDWAY: Ipswich rider Jason Doyle has been ruled out for the rest of the season following his crash in last week’s extra heat win at King’s Lynn.

The 38-year-old has been in superb form for the Premiership table-toppers, and also won last month’s Grand Prix of Poland.

Doyle will be operated on tomorrow to address four broken ribs, a lung contusion, two snapped tendons and a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder.
