Robertson: Tottenham squad determined not to flirt with relegation again
Andy Robertson

ANDY ROBERTSON says there is a determination among Tottenham’s squad to ensure last season’s Premier League relegation scare is not repeated.

Spurs survived by the slimmest of margins last term, securing their top-flight status on the final day of the season with a crucial 1-0 win over Everton.

The north London club also finished 17th in the 2024-25 campaign, although they were 13 points clear of the drop zone.

Former Liverpool left-back Robertson joined Roberto De Zerbi’s side on a free transfer this summer as part of a major rebuild, with centre-backs Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke and midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes also arriving.

“Obviously, mentality is a big thing in football,” he said, speaking to SPURSPLAY.

“Since I’ve been at this club … the lads are so determined. They’ve got a real strong mentality.

“I think they all had to come together, especially in the last part (of last season) when the new manager came in.

“I think they’ve carried that into the summer, a determination to not get the club in that position again.

“It’s up to the new lads to come in and help with that. Hopefully I can be a big part of that and try and help bring a winning mentality here, just help drive the boys forward. Hopefully we can do that, then we’ll have a good season.”

After recruiting former Brighton boss De Zerbi following the sackings of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, Tottenham took 11 points from their final seven games of last season to stay up at the expense of West Ham.
