MATT RICHARDSON will make his Team England debut at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as he goes up against the nation with which he won two gold medals four years ago.
The 27-year-old, crowned the fastest man on two wheels when he broke the 200m sprint record in 2025, won individual sprint and team sprint gold for Australia at the Birmingham Games in 2022.
But having switched allegiance to the country of his birth following the Paris Olympics, Richardson will be a rival to his old team-mates in Glasgow next month.
Joining Richardson in the men’s sprint squad are Joe Truman and Hamish Turnbull, who took team silver four years ago behind Richardson’s Australian squad, and debutant Harry Ledingham-Horn.
“I’m proud to be representing England for the first time at my second Commonwealth Games,” Richardson said. “I’m so excited to get out there and race for the team and hopefully bring back another gold medal to add to the collection.”
Katy Marchant and Sophie Capewell, two thirds of Britain’s Olympic gold-winning team sprint unit from Paris, headline the women’s sprint squad alongside Rhianna Paris-Smith and Georgette Rand.
Charlie Tanfield and Ethan Vernon, team pursuit silver medallists in Birmingham, are joined by Will Tidball, Josh Charlton and Henry Hobbs as they look to go one better than four years ago.
Josie Knight headlines a women’s endurance squad that also includes Maddie Leech, Sophie Lewis, Grace Lister and Abi Miller.
Four-time Paralympic champion Kadeena Cox is due to make her Team England debut at the Games, having twice missed previous editions through injury while competing in para-athletics.
Cox is joined in the para-cycling squad by Morgan Newberry, Matt Robertson, Lizzi Jordan (piloted by Danni Khan) and Sophie Unwin (piloted by Sylvia Misztal).
The 2026 Commonwealth Games start on July 23.
