O’Sullivan races into Wuhan Open quarter-finals

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN booked his place in Tursday’s quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open with a 5-2 victory over Stephen Maguire.

The 50-year-old recorded breaks of 75, 54 and 106 to race to a 3-0 lead inside 40 minutes.

Maguire managed to get two frames on the board before O’Sullivan rounded out a one-sided match with a second century break of 110.

O’Sullivan will play Mark Selby in the seven-time world champion’s 151st career ranking quarter-final tomorrow.

But when quizzed on his hopes of lifting the title in Wuhan, a downbeat O’Sullivan replied: “No, absolutely no chance.

“I was just happy to win the match. To win two matches, I was over the moon with, and to win three is a miracle at the moment.

“I have probably gone as far as I can go, and if anybody plays well against me they win, it doesn’t matter where they are ranked.

“My game is just very, very poor and I am not playing to a good enough level. My technique is just so rubbish that I don’t have a clue where the balls are going, it is just hit-and-hope snooker.”

Elsewhere, Judd Trump also breezed into the last eight with a comprehensive 5-1 over Si Jiahui.

Trump, who has only lost one frame in the tournament so far, will next face Chang Bingyu after he saw off Ali Carter 5-2.
